This is a 3 by 2 1/2  inch pyrite sun with a lustrous gold sunburst on each side, shimmering with colorful specks of golden highlights.  Pyrite Suns are over 300 million years old and are found only in Illinois Coalmines.   This is our Calico version of a Pyrite Sun, it is speckled with the underlying slate on one side, and the front side has a band of slate on one side.  This is a beautiful specimen of a truly unique pyrite sun, commonly known as a miners dollar.   Each pyrite sun is an original, with its own individual characteristics, once it’s gone, it’s gone.
